Worth Your Interest

I’d be hard pressed to find someone today who has not heard about “The Fiscal Cliff.”  Just as true, I’d be challenged to find an informed person who has not chosen sides.  Today’s radio talk shows were flowing over the brim with blame and accusations to the point that I just had to turn it off.
It was of no benefit to me to listen.  But that was the gift of today, and I’ll share it now. Every step we take, we do so by the cause of interest.  No matter the action, it’s very start was a kindled interest.  Interest to find out more, or even the quintessential ‘let’s see what happens.”  Our experimentation thrives on discovery, this each and every one of us was born with. It’s the very code in which all other activities submit.  It’s of little use to question ‘why’ we are what we are, but a more interesting point of investigation is ‘what’ will we do with our predispositions followed on with ‘where’ will that take us.

So my insight for today, still in the blush of a new year and the whispers of doing life different is this.  Question your choices when it comes to investing your interest.  In effect; what’s in it for you?  If you are ambushed by macro issues of nations and governments, it might be of interest to find out what the issues are; what the consequences of each choice holds.  But that’s about it.  You or I as individual citizens have little to no influence on the process of law-making, or law-enforcing. What is of interest is what each of us makes matter.  When we make opinions matter to us, we invest our emotions into the fray and often find a rigid must-be situation.  If the issue is valued, then it’s of little interest of correct; just doesn’t seem to work out that way.  Once a proposition begins to matter to an individual they are captured by all that it suggest.  Now I must admit I’m guilty of falling prey to clever manipulation of facts to invoke outrage or rebellious tendencies hidden deep in my DNA.  I lose track of what I know to be true and get swept up by apparent injustice or apparent snobbery and arrogance.  That’s my issue, and my fault; I got snookered.  Be-cause, the issue is not being right.  And it is not about accumulating a parade of facts to prove me being right; no matter what the issue.  What matters is harmony.  What matters is encouragement, creativity, kindness.  These are the bedrock values I embrace as necessary.  I have fleeting interest in winning a position that is lauded by any political party.  They are deceptive and are only interested in one thing actually: power.  Each will use whatever guile they possess to paint the other party as villain and themselves as champion of the people.  The more despicable even include the words ‘our children.’  It’s all smoke and mirrors to snag our interest.  When we invest our interest we are owned.  Today I offer a simple litmus test to any question of governing.

Will it benefit all?  I’m tired of officials spending other people’s money and draping themselves in the illusion that they are divine in their wisdom of how to take care of me.  If no one asks….then don’t form an opinion.  If it doesn’t encourage another, it’s not worth considering.  If it isn’t provided in a kind way, it’s poison to our citizens.

Teaching one another how to solve life’s challenges isn’t about handing over the solution; it’s inspiring innovation and creative resolutions;  with dignity and respect for all.
