Blue-White Brilliance

As I continue the details of transitioning from predictable rhythms in a known profession into the obscured opportunities of the desired vocation, I enlist the encouragement and wisdom from those I trust.  Leaping into a dream is much like watching a game from the sidelines; the simple act of stepping onto the field forever changes the point of view, and we call that making it real.  No longer commenting on others efforts or the fabricated ‘what if’ it is now a case of participant; budged from inert.
What makes creative venture such a thrill is by the nature of its risk.
The risk, undetermined outcome, brings to surface the fundamentals of our living conditions.  As elementary as that may sound, change shaves the veneer off of the comfortable so that we can free the sweet smell of the raw wood underneath.  Here I am.
Not what I’ve acquired, earned, or constructed. Naked as the day I arrived.  Now, arrest the need to identify who I am by the past and step up to the microphone and tell who I think I am.
Yikes the actual!
I’ve heard the bell tingle so rarely I almost forgotten its appeal.  The world of our attention can be corrupted by meaningless demands; distilling the vibrancy of creative romantic fantasy.  When seen it can soften, or for some, incite fearful resistance.  If we should question the direction would we then qualify our methods? Yet at the core of each heart desire’s remains the sentiment for tender.
Remnant to any victory by struggle lies the longing for magical transformation through competition; from conflict into nurturing and cherishing.  Our shared desire to feed the heart is never-ending, and for the brave, brash and bold; all consuming.
What I have before me is this gift of introduction.  If I were to be deceptive, might  I seduce my journey into the unknown with tarry?  No, you are not free to be a spectator in your life, so cast away conditioned response of  delay in such a divine challenge as claiming your birthright freedoms.  Depart from the illusion that someone else carries permission or punishment to be melded out as consequence for a plan that goes unexpectedly askew from a desired destination.
The task at hand is to grow reassurance in a notion as if to invoke incanting spell; a romantic conjuring, in a sacred moment of open allowance.  The blue-white brilliant lightning bolt strikes, shattering the restrictive mental shackles as liberation of hesitation burst onto the scene into its full glory.
Words have power ~ as mind provides wings.
Then eager hearts go flying

Illusion of Control

I am convinced that what prevails in our suffering is the disallowance of time to feel.
We can become so accustomed to fast pace living, chronic crises management, and instantaneous gratification, that we fail to recognize we exist in a cocktail of frets, worries, anxious hopes and fearful dreads. Sidestepping consequences, we follow a well-worn path; a ritual of practiced avoidance, as resignation from living and existing on autopilot for the sake of what we deem survival.
"Busy" is just another way of saying ‘flying blind.'  Too busy for what is important to us; too busy to consider our dreams; too busy to care.
We’d rather react hastily than act in a deliberate way.  Purposeful and focused in order to effect a situation towards our preference.  Without care there can be no quality; and that's the bedrock gist of it.
A self claimed promise of safety in mediocre performance; trade-off quality for quantity of episodes of less risk. Our distractions are choices.  Even when we feel powerless to change the selections, we miss the essential truth that we are not powerless to dedicate our attention when making our choices.  That makes all the difference in being in charge and chasing the illusion of control.

In the Event of an Emergency

This is my celebratory one hundredth blog posting.
I’ve addressed my childhood; my wonder at psychological phenomena; the elusive emotional states of the living moments; external conditions affecting my well being; and cherished values and perception.  In these I mentioned my spouse, family, pets and attitude towards life.
It’s been a hoot thus far.
My wife started vacuuming my study as I was writing this. I paused and told her that she lit me up.  She smiled; then told me to get out of her way.  I think that’s a great example of the disparity between what is expected and what is delivered.  I’d say the same is true with formal plans to deal with the unexpected.
I was cleaning out my school file and found the University Procedures in the Event of an Emergency pamphlet.  It addressed the many contingencies that might happen during the school year and provided instructions on how to deal with each and every conceivable possibility.  They were detailed and complete; with subordinating divisions to each of many critical stages that transpire during an Emergency.
The introduction began with the simple stuff; defining accidents and injuries.  I was grateful for that.  I’d hate to think my life devoid of knowing what those were.  I was being spoon fed the purpose for instructing me on what to do in every possible emergency, accompanied by the name of the threat and the proper procedures I was required to follow.  Just awesome.
Not only would I be educated in what an accident and injury were, but I was also meant to learn the procedures for reacting to bomb threats, building and ground structural distress; (not to be confused with pre-final student distress) fire and/or explosions (as if there really is any difference in the degree of panic between the two of them); Laboratory Emergencies, (my all time favorite as most often caused by student goofing off with dangerous chemicals like…well….me). Then the award winning, need to know at all cost, Medical Epidemic emergencies, (I consider that as close to Zombie Apocalypse as they dared get.) Then bringing up the rear of the dread parade were Mental health crises; (We’re in school, could there be worse? Oh yeah, post degree employment searching) physical/bodily harm (seemed redundant to me); Rape/Sexual assault, (roll over and play dead) then closing with important twin necessities of Suspicious packages or envelopes (not money from home) and lastly weather-related emergencies, (get out of tunnel clouds they are not harmless toys.)
I read through all those dire events and the very wise instructions with calm reason, nodding my agreement; they all made sense.  Then I realized the nature of Emergency was encompassed in the earlier definition of accident; ”…unforeseen incident during which a person or persons sustains physical injuries” yes, where TRAUMA is involved.  Because the unexpected surprises and injures.  So then the actual instructions should be far more simple:  “Stay calm, try not to panic.”  Everything else is ‘nice to have’ in the afore mentioned situations.  If panic cannot be overcome, then I’m going to resort to my son’s gaming Wizard’s rule; which is,  “Passion rules reason”  So duck and cover.
